William Jeffrey Blackmon

William Jeffery Blackmon, affectionately known as Bill to his friends and Poppy to his grandchildren, passed away on July 13, 2026, at the age of 63.

Born on December 29, 1962, in Neptune, New Jersey, Bill was the son of Carl Johnson Blackmon and Sarah Mauldin Blackmon. From an early age, he possessed a curious mind and an extraordinary eye for art and design. This passion led him to Clemson University. A proud Clemson alumnus and lifelong Tigers fan, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Design. He later earned a Master's degree in Architecture from the University of Texas at Arlington. Bill built a successful career as an architect, specializing in 3D design renderings that combined creativity, precision, and his remarkable eye for detail. 

Bill's curiosity extended far beyond architecture. He was also an accomplished computer programmer who developed the software program AutoHook, reflecting both his ingenuity and determination to make computer aided design faster and more proficient. He also wrote a children's book, Building Sad and Happy Faces, a project he was especially proud of. He had a gift for finding beauty in the details, whether through macro photography or simply the way he looked at the world. He enjoyed spending time in nature, listening to music, watching Star Trek, and sharing life with his beloved cats, Spock and Nigel.

Quiet by nature and content to keep to himself, Bill found joy in learning, creating, and following his own interests. He never felt the need to be like everyone else, and those who loved him admired the way he saw the world and embraced the things that brought him joy. Bill lived life authentically and on his own terms. If you knew Bill, chances are you heard music playing in the background, laughed at one of his dad jokes, or found yourself listening as he enthusiastically shared one of his many passions.

Nothing brought Bill greater joy than being Poppy. His grandchildren were the center of his world, and he treasured every moment he spent with them. He loved teaching them new things, whether it was how to fish, play chess, or appreciate the outdoors. Some of their favorite memories were fishing, exploring nature, walking Spock and Nigel, putting together puzzles, and laughing at his grandpa jokes. They looked forward to every visit, especially when they could help feed the cats or take them for walks with him. Bill loved sharing his passion for photography with them, even turning his macro photographs into custom puzzles for them to enjoy. Above all, Bill wanted his grandchildren to know they were loved, and he leaves them with a lifetime of adventures, laughter, and memories they will always cherish.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Sarah Blackmon, and by the beloved cats who brought him so much joy over the years: Wilma, Mulder, Scully, Scarlett, Jojo, and Shemp. 

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Rebekah Blackmon Wilson and husband, Blake; his sons, William Jeffery Blackmon, Jr., Matthew John Blackmon and wife, Violet, and Jacob Carl Blackmon; his brother, John Blackmon and wife, Tuula; his sister, Sarah Malloch; and his beloved grandchildren, Oliver Dean Wilson, Jax Thomas Wilson, Harley Grace Wilson, Scarlet Rose Blackmon, and Ava Marie Blackmon; and Shannon Wentworth, the mother of his children. 

Bill will be remembered for his quiet brilliance, endless curiosity, gentle sense of humor, and unwavering authenticity. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
