Virginia Mathers Hudson, age 83, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2026
Virginia was born on November 13, 1942, to Johnnie and Alice Mathers. From an early age, Virginia had a caring heart and a natural desire to help others. That kindness remained a defining part of who she was throughout her life and was reflected in both her work and the way she cared for those around her.
Virginia spent much of her career in retail and hotel management, where she was known for her dedication and care for others. Outside of work, she treasured spending time with her family and especially loved going on trips and making memories with them. Whether traveling together, gathering around the table, or simply enjoying time in one another’s company, her family was a great source of happiness in her life.
Virginia especially enjoyed preparing wonderful meals for the people she loved. She was a talented cook and took great joy in bringing her family together over good food. She was a kindhearted and generous soul who often put the needs of others before her own.
Virginia was a selfless provider all her life. She held a special place in her heart for her great grandchildren Austin and Hailey Dunn whom she took in and raised, and a special place for her beloved granddog, Raisin, as well.
Virginia was an advocate for others and a steadfast individual. She would go the extra mile for the things and people she believed in. She was passionate in many ways and is forever remembered for her enjoyment of Dr. Pepper Zero especially.
Virginia is survived by her children, Johnnie Andrews, Lisa Jackson and husband Thomas Jackson, Kevin Hudson and wife Sharon Hudson; grandchildren, Allison (Nikki) Keller, Kerri Crossley, Cindi Gragg, Kristi Gragg, Brandon Hudson, and Jacob Gragg; great-grandchildren; Austin Dunn, Hailey (Lee) Dunn, and numerous others; siblings, Shirley Langford, Evelyn Rutherford, Wayne Mathers and wife Janet Mathers, and Tommy Mathers and wife Barbara Mathers.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie and Alice Mathers; her husband, Gary James Hudson; her stillborn daughter, Brenda Kay Andrews; sisters, Brenda Mathers, Alice Jeanette Cowart, and Annete Peyton; and brother, Johnnie Mathers Jr.
In keeping with Virginia’s wishes, her body will be donated to medicine. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will have the opportunity to gather and remember the life she shared with so many.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Virginia’s memory to the American Heart Association.
