Thomas Harold Hayes

Thomas Harold Hayes, age 79, of Buford, Georgia and formerly of Boone, passed away Thursday, October 26, 2023.  Born January 21, 1944 in Alleghany County, he was a son of Thomas Mastin and Stella Smith Hayes.  Harold served in the US Army during Vietnam followed by a tour in the North Carolina National Guard.  He was employed in grocery store management in Watauga County for more than 30 years.  Harold loved nothing more than spending time with his family.

He is survived his wife, Pauline Baird Hayes; daughter, Katrina Small and husband, Shannon, and granddaughter, Liliy Small, all of Buford, Georgia; and his son, Gerald Hayes and wife, Michelle, of Raleigh.

Funeral services for Harold Hayes will be conducted Tuesday morning, October 31, 2023, at 11 o’clock at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Chapel, officiated by Rev. Mike Townsend.  Graveside services with Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post 130, will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens.
