Sara Gentry Hodges, age 83 passed away at her home Wednesday, January 29, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on October 16, 1941 in Watauga County, she was the daughter of Todd H. Gentry and Nina J. Houck.
Sara grew up in the Ashe County in the Baldwin Community. She was a member of the Bethany Methodist Church from childhood. Sammie graduated from Beaver Creek High School in 1959, and UNC Greensboro in 1985.
Her employment was with Davidson County Community College and Davidson County Senior Services. In 1992 she received North Carolinas highest civilian honor: The Order of the Long Leaf Pine.
Sara was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Dianne G. Goss; and her brother, Tony H. Gentry. She is survived by her loving husband, John W. Hodges, III of Jefferson, N.C.; daughter, Elizabeth (Tad) Kepley of Lexington, NC; son, John W. (Beth) Hodges IV, of Jefferson, NC; Grandchildren, Lauren (Zach) Burkhart of Lexington, NC; Chase (Gretchan) Kepley of Jefferson, NC; Logan Kepley of Lexington; Josh (Linane) Hodges of West Jefferson, NC; Justin Hodges of Sugar Grove; step-grandchildren; Mathew Nichols of Jefferson and Jordan Nichols of Fleetwood, NC; Great-grandchildren, Mia Hodges, Isabella Hodges and Gabe Hodges all of Jefferson, NC; Ki Kipley and Mac Kipley of Lexington, NC; step-grandchildren, Kelton and Coby Lewis of Jefferson, NC; sister-in-law, Jane H. Shomaker of Advance, NC and many nieces nephews and cousins.
A family Graveside Service was conducted at Mt. Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens in Boone, NC.
