Samuel Austin Moretz

Samuel Austin Moretz of Big Hill Road went to be with the Lord Thursday, November 23, 2023 at the age of 81.  After high school, he joined the United States Air Force where he proudly served for 20 years and retired as a Master Sergeant.  After retiring, he worked for the Blue Ridge Parkway where he worked for 20 more years and finally retired in 2005.  He enjoyed collecting pocket watches and knives, and coins.  He also enjoyed frequent trips to Harrahs and Pigeon Forge.  He especially loved spending quality time with his family.  He married the love of his life, Carol in 1967 in Reno, Nevada.  They spent 56 wonderful years together and raised four children.  Samuel was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Jessie Moretz and son-in-law, David Greene.  He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Ann Moretz, daughter, Terri Greene of Charlotte, son, Tim (Selena) Moretz and their children, Damon, Derek and Dayna Moretz, son, Tom (Gale) Moretz and their children,  Matthew Moretz, and Emily Hicks of Mountain City, TN, daughter, Jennifer (Chad) Bailey of Conover, NC, and his sister, Barbara (John) Moretz.  A Memorial Service will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church, 1030 Big Hill Road, Boone, NC 28607 with receiving of friends and family Thursday, November 30, 2023 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM.
