On September 16, 2023, surrounded by his family, Ronald Dewitt Cox, 86, left his home peacefully here on Earth to go to his heavenly home. Ronald Dewitt Cox was born in Watauga County on December 29, 1936, to the late Brady and Hattie Cox.
Dewitt is survived by his wife, Barbara, of 66 years, and sons Ronnie and wife, Sharon, and Steve and wife Brenda. He is also survived by his brother James and wife Linda Cox of Deep Gap, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, a son in law Kent Cowen, and many nieces and nephews.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, a sister, Valeria White and husband Earl, two daughters: Barbara Anita Cox (infant) and Anita Marie Cowen.
In 1956. Dewitt spent five years serving in the Merchant Marines. He married the love of his life, Barbara Danner Cox, in 1957. Dewitt was a devoted family man, very loving and caring for his wife and children.
He deeply believed in God and loved singing gospel music and playing his guitar. Dewitt was well known for his ability to paint and detail cars. He worked at the Ford dealership in Boone for 44 years. After retirement, he continued painting cars as a hobby, playing his guitar and praising the Lord.
The family would like to thank Medi Home Health & Hospice for all the loving care they gave Dewitt. Also, a very special thank you to his caretaker, friend, and great-niece Miranda Morefield, who has gone above and beyond her duties to take care of Dewitt and Barbara.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, September 21, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Austin and Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiated by Pastor Burl Greer. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 pm, Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Austin and Barnes Funeral Home Chapel, prior to service.
Memorial donations may be made to Medi Home Health and Hospice of Boone 400 Shadowline Building 100 Suite 100B Boone, NC 28607. Food may be taken to the home.
