Roger William Giles

Roger William Giles, 56, of Boone, passed away in the early morning hours on August 11, 2026. Roger was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother and will be deeply missed.

Roger was born in Shields Township, IL and lived there until age 10. His family then moved to eastern North Carolina, where he lived until he graduated high school. Roger joined the US Army directly out of high school and proudly served our country for 3 years. He was stationed in Germany and was there just as the Berlin Wall came down. One of his most prized possessions was a piece of the fencing surrounding the wall. Roger also served as military intelligence during Desert Storm in Kuwait. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Roger moved to Wilmington, NC for college where he met his wife, Calista. He graduated from UNC Wilmington with a BS in Psychology. Roger went on to get a MBA from Liberty University and worked tirelessly his entire career serving people with disabilities. He strongly believed in helping and advocating for others, especially those who could not advocate for themselves.

Roger was a strong man of faith and dedicated member of Boone UMC. He enjoyed serving as part of the tech team by working in the sound booth. Roger loved spending time with his family and being outside. He could often be found on his front porch in a rocking chair, enjoying the birds on his bird feeder. He loved playing games and was very competitive. Family game nights sitting together and laughing with those he loved was his favorite pastime.

Roger is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 30 years, Calista; daughter, Corinne Miller and husband Jacob; daughter, Faith Giles and fiancé Quin; and son, Eli Giles. He was the beloved grandfather to Amberlea Miller. They had the most precious bond and she called him Guh-Guh since she couldn't say Grandpa. He is also survived by his siblings, Randy Giles (Schalane), Rodney Giles (Tina), and Laureen Giles. He was the much loved son-in-law to Pamela and Ralph Palmer. He is also survived by brother-in-law, David Willis and sister-in-law, Natalie Sanmiguel (Marco).

Roger was preceded in death by his mother Lorraine Thomas and step-father Bill Thomas.

A celebration of life service for Roger will be at Boone United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at 2:00 pm. Visitation will be prior to the service at Boone UMC at 1:00 pm. Following the celebration of life service, there will be a graveside service with military honors at Bethelview Methodist Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Roger’s memory to Boone UMC.
