Pearl Winebarger Obituary

Cora Pearl Winebarger was born July 20, 1929 to parent’s Roby and Ida in the Meat Camp community of Watauga County. Pearl was born on the same property that she would spend much of her life, raise her children, and help raise her grandchildren. On November 23, 2023 she left this world, in the same beloved place she made her entrance, surrounded by her loving family.

She and husband Robert were married for 66 years, creating a legacy of four children, eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.

Pearl, lovingly known as Mom and Mamaw by her children and grandchildren, was a homemaker and lifelong caregiver.

She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She dedicated her life to the care of her family, always willing and ready to show love and tender care, meeting the needs of those around her. She was a member of Proffit’s Grove Baptist Church for much of her life. Pearl was well known in the community as a wonderful cook, preparing wonderful breakfasts every morning of her life until a few short years ago. Her family warmly remembers her sharp sense of humor, a trait she generously passed down to much of her lineage.

Our family would like to convey what a very special person our mother and grandmother was. She was warm, strong and stoic, loving and kind, a member of the greatest generation, she was always willing to do what needed to be done for her loved ones. As it goes for everyone, life hasn't always been easy, but it has always been easier with her by our sides. We will feel her absence profoundly until the day we are reunited.

Pearl was preceded in death by her husband Robert, her parents Roby and Ida, four siblings, including infant brother Joe, older brothers Clyde and Claude, twin brother Burl and daughter-in-law, Dee Winebarger, wife of son Ronnie.

She is survived by three loving sons, Scott Winebarger of Mountain City, Ronnie Winebarger of Boone, and Tommy Winebarger (Audrey) of Boone. She is survived by one loving daughter, Susan Curtis and special son in law, Allen Curtis of Boone. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: April Smith (Mitchell), Shellie Cook (Jason), Kim Winebarger Ward (Jeremy), Nickie Hayes (Scott), Samantha Lewis (Trey), Andrew Ellis (LeAnn), Bethany Curtis (Michael), and Jonathan Curtis (Taylor). Additionally, she is survived by 11 great grandchildren: Sierra Townsend, Chelsie South, Kelsey Hayes, Gracie Lewis, Ethan Hayes, Isaiah Hayes, Zachary Whittington, Lilly Lewis, Bella Hampton, Ethan Lewis, and namesake Mya Pearl Curtis. Leaving an incredible legacy behind, she is also survived by five great-great-grandchildren; PJ, Elijah, Baylee Mae, Karleigh, and Gavin.

A receiving of friends will take place at Austin and Barnes in Boone from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, November 27, 2023. Graveside service will be held at Winebarger Family Cemetery at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 28, 2023.

The family respectfully requests no food. Flowers are appreciated and memorials may be made to St. Jude, a cause she believed in and lovingly supported.
