Mary Ruth Townsend

Mary Ruth Townsend, age 84, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on November23, 2023. She was born in Watauga County on September 28, 1939, to Lula Elizabeth HatleyTownsend and William Poley Townsend.  Mary Ruth and her loving husband, David Carl Townsend, were longtime residents of the Foscoe Community. She was employed as part of the kitchen staff at Hound Ears Golf Club until retirement. Mary Ruth loved to garden and can best be remembered as the happy, smiling face who loved sitting on her porch, watching the world go by. She was preceded in death by her husband David, her parents Lula and Poley, her sisters Blanche “Birdie” Townsend, Olive Sounder, Anna Townsend, and Lois McSwain, and brother Lloyd “Red” Townsend. Mary Ruth is survived by sons Ronnie Len Townsend and wife Kim, and Donnie William Townsend and wife Cheryl. She is also survived by one brother, William Ralph Townsend. Services will be held at Austin and Barnes Funeral home on Wednesday November 29, 2023. Family viewing will be held from 11 am until 12:00 PM. Public viewing will be held from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM with chapel services beginning at 1 pm. A grave side service will be held at Matney Liberty Cemetery.
