Margaret "Hal" McNeely

Mrs. Hal McNeely, age 101, of Boone, passed away Sunday morning, June 22,2025, at her home.

Margaret Hal Stevenson was born February 9,1924, in Taylorsville to Robert Lee and Bertha Sloop Stevenson. Hal was a devoted Christian and was a long-standing member of the First Presbyterian Church of Boone. She and her sister Mary Steve Shook always loved assisting Dottie Sykes with the Children’s* Choir from both the First Presbyterian and Boone United Methodist Churches. Mrs. McNeely retired with 30 years’ service from Watauga Medical Center as the Records Administrator. She enjoyed gardening and always grew a large raspberry patch. She loved inviting the children of the church to come over and pick raspberries.

Mrs. McNeely is survived by her son, Robert H. McNeely of Boone, daughter. Dr. Carol McNeely of Silver Springs, Md and son, Michael McNeely and wife Karen, of Asheboro; and grandsons, Ben McNeely and Thomas McNeely and wife, Julia all of Raleigh.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Robert McNeely.

Celebration of Life services will be scheduled and announced at a later date.

Final resting place will be in the Stevenson family section of the Taylorsville City Cemetery where many ancestors are also buried.
