Joyce Ruth Wilson

Mrs. Joyce Wilson, age 90, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2026.  She was born on March 2, 1936 in McConnell, West Virginia, the first-born child of Elza and Ruth Hinchman.  

Mrs. Wilson is survived by daughters Sandy (Wayne) Hicks, Todd, NC, and Susan (Shannon) Reese, Lenoir, NC, grandchildren, Will Hicks and Ben Hicks of Todd, NC, Justin Reese, USN Summerville, SC, Sarah (Elijah) Watson and Zachary (Gabby) Reese of Lenoir, NC, great grandchildren, Kailey Jones, Kason and Greyson Hicks, Hayden, Lucas, Avery and Jackson Reese, Jericho Watson and Maggie Reese.  Mrs. Wilson is also survived by her sister, Janice Lilly of Greensboro, NC and sister-in-law Marilyn Hinchman of Mims, FL.  In addition, she is survived by her faithful fur baby Abby. Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Johnny, Jackie, and Roger Hinchman and sister Audria Arthur. 

Mrs. Wilson was a coal miner’s daughter, a devoted and proud Army wife, a mother, and a Nana. She married her beloved soldier, William Lyle Wilson, on August 21, 1955 and embraced the adventures and sacrifices of military life with grace, beauty and style.  She loved to travel and was well suited to military life. There is strong. There is Army Strong. And then there is Army Wife Strong.  She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 15th from 12:00 to 1:00 o’clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.  Graveside services for Mrs. Joyce Wilson will follow at the Bethelview Methodist Church Cemetery, Ridge Road, Boone.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Bethelview Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, in care of Larry Carroll, 200 Dell Coffey Road, Boone, NC 28607.
