Jimmy Dean Phillips

Jimmy Dean Phillips, age 68, of Mountain Dale Road, Vilas, passed away Thursday, July 2, 2026.  Born October 21, 1957 in Watauga County, he was the son of Carrie Phillips Cornett and the late James Clayton Phillips.

Jimmy was a member of Mountain Dale Baptist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He retired from Lowes Foods as Produce Manager.  Jimmy loved attending car shows and showing the 1976 F100 Ford Truck that he restored to factory perfection.  In his younger days he might be found fishing a trout stream or on his pontoon boat lake fishing.  He loved working with his hands, building and fixing things or assisting anyone that might need a helping hand.  But most of all, Jimmy loved his family.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kathy Hatley Phillips; his son, Jimmy Travis Phillips and wife, Misty, of Boone; sister, Kathy Jean Phillips, and his mother, Carrie Ward Cornett, both of Vilas; and grandchildren, Tiffany Renee Mounts of Mountain City, TN and William Hunter Phillips of Sugar Grove.  He was preceded in death by his father, James Clayton Phillips.

Funeral services for Jimmy Dean Phillips will be conducted Monday afternoon, July 6, 2026 at 2 o’clock at Mountain Dale Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Eric Cornett.  The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 o’clock, prior to services, at the church.  Burial will follow in the Mountain Dale Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Travis Phillips, Paul Ward, Shaun Shepherd, Michael Edmisten, Jake Cornett, and Kenneth Moody.
