Jean Marie (Pavlik) Vander Haar, 96, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2023 in Boone, NC. She was born in Sioux City, IA on May 17, 1927 the daughter of Edward James and Marie Givens Pavlik.
She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Robert Earl Vander Haar, her sons James Vander Haar and Charles Vander Haar, her sister Darlene McCoy and brother LeRoy (Bud) Pavlik. Surviving are her daughters Katherine Farmer (Monroe) of Clifton Forge, VA and Kristine Welborn (David) of Boone, NC, her daughter-in-law Barbara Vander Haar of Hockessin, DE and her six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Jean grew up as an Iowa farm girl and graduated from Central High School in Sioux City, IA. Outside of being a wonderful mother and wife, Jean worked as a secretary for many years and sold her beautiful handmade crafts. She enjoyed quilting, reading, playing bridge and sewing. She was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church, New Holland, PA and current member of Grace Lutheran Church, Boone, NC. She served as a Sunday school teacher and on many church committees and volunteered in the community with Meals on Wheels and reading to children at the local elementary school.
Jean loved her family and her contagious smile lit up the room when they visited. A gracious woman with a strong faith, she had a sweet and gentle spirit, a great sense of humor and was fiercely independent.
The family will receive friends at Austin-Barnes Funeral Home in Boone, NC on Tuesday, November 14 from 1:30 - 3:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in New Holland, PA.
