Evelyn (Lockner) Greer

Evelyn Lockner Greer, 83, of Boone, passed away Sunday morning, August 23, 2026 at her home.  Born October 6, 1942 in Johnson County, Tennessee, a daughter of James and Blanie Payne Lockner.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Larry Paul Greer.  

Evelyn was a loving wife and mother to her family and was known as ‘ Mawmaw’ to her treasured granddaughter, McKinlee Ann Watson.  She enjoyed her flowers and loved being with all her dogs throughout the years, but especially close to her heart was her dog and constant companion, Mollie.  

She was a member of Mount Lebanon Baptist Church, and for many years, she was an LPN at Northwest Children Clinic as well as bookkeeper for the family business, Larry Greer Electric Company.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Tonya Greer Watson and husband, Johnny Lawrence Millers Creek; her granddaughter, McKinlee Watson of Wilmington; sisters, Katherine Lockner and Vernell Lockner, both of Boone; brothers-in-law, Burl Greer and wife Linda of Boone and Jimmy Greer and wife, Barbara of Newton: and sisters-in-law, Geraldine Bradley and Alice Stevens and husband, Gary, both of Vilas.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Thelma Bunton, Louise Ward and Jewel Lockner, mother and father-in-law, Vera and Arvil Greer, and brother-in law, Gary Greer. 

Celebration of Life services for Evelyn Greer will be conducted Thursday afternoon, August 27, 2026 at 2 o’clock at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Jason Cornett and Rev Burl Greer.  The family will receive friends at the church from noon until 2 o’clock, prior to services, at Mount Lebanon Baptist Church.  Graveside services will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens, 521 Old East King Street, Boone, NC  28607.  

The family wishes to extend a special ‘Thank You’ to Amorem Hospice and to Home Instead.
