Mrs. Elsie Greene Hodgson, age 96, of 2694 Meat Camp Road, Boone, passed away Monday evening, September 25, 2023 at Life Care Center of Banner Elk.
Born May l6, 1927 in Watauga County, Elsie was a daughter of Grace Greene Wilcox and Dwight Greer. Mrs. Hodgson was a member of Proffit’s Grove Baptist Church. By occupation, she was a homemaker and was employed at Shadowline in Boone.
Mrs. Hodgson was a devoted wife and mother who dearly loved her family, community and her church. She enjoyed being out of doors working in her flower beds and raising vegetables in her garden for family, always with extra produce to share with friends and neighbors. She continued her mother’s tradition of tying fringe for bed spreads and making canopies.
Mrs. Hodgson is survived by her son, Barney Hodgson and wife, Diane, and daughter, Jeanette Lyons and husband, Jim, all of Boone; grandsons, Drew Wallace of Meat Camp, Brad Hodgson and wife, Holly, of Kernersville and Justin Hodgson of Boone; granddaughter, Kerri Brown of Boone; great grandchildren, Hal Hodgson, Jackson Borrack, Madison Haynes and Kalani and Marina Brown; sister-in-law, Maxine Wilcox of Vilas; and her special caregiver, Libby Miller. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband of 68 years, Bernard Hodgson; son, Bert Hodgson; brother, Ravon Wilcox, brother, Kenneth Wilcox and wife, Reba, brother, Fred Greer and wife, Betty; sister, Ginny Mikeworth and husband, Rick, sister-in-law, Muriel Wilkinson and husband, James Clair, sister-in-law, Stella Rhea Trivette and husband, Harvey and special aunt, Eula Greene.
Funeral services for Elsie Hodgson will be conducted Sunday afternoon, October 1, 2023 at 2 o’clock at Proffit’s Grove Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Delmar James and Rev. Herbert McCoy. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 o’clock, prior to services, at the church. Graveside services will follow at Meat Camp Baptist Church Cemetery.
