Dr. Alex L. Cornett, age 57, of Baird’s Creek Road, Vilas, passed away Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Johnson City Medical Center. Born January 24, 1966 in Watauga County, he was a son of R. A. Jr. and Brenda Bentley Cornett. Alex attended Life College of Chiropractic in Atlanta, Ga. and received his CNA 2 Nursing Degree from Caldwell Community College. He also had an interest in commercial real estate and was working toward his degree. Alex attended Montreat College in Asheville before enlisting in the US Navy where he attended basic aviation training classes. He was awarded from the Navy the 1ST Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Meritorious Unit Commendation.
In addition to his parents, R. A. and Brenda Cornett, he is survived by his brothers, Eric Cornett and wife, Marni, of Taylorsville and Elliott S. Cornett of Concord; nephew, Tyler Cornett of Asheville and niece, Abigail Cornett of Raleigh. Numerous cousins also survive.
A Homecoming ‘Celebration of Life’ service for Dr. Alex L. Cornett will be held Sunday, September 17, 2023 at 2 o’clock at Advent Christian Church, officiated by Pastors Mitch Marlow and Gordon Noble and Elliott S. Cornett and Kevin Strange. Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post 130 (and the US Navy) will follow services at the church. Graveside services will follow in the Shull Cemetery in Valle Crucis.
