Carroll Moretz Obituary

Carroll Alonzo Moretz, age 71, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2026.

Born on December 14, 1954, to Alonzo and Dora Moretz, Carroll was raised with a deep love for family, faith, and music. Those three things remained the foundation of his life and shaped the man he became.

Music was more than a hobby to Carroll, it was part of who he was. Whether playing bluegrass or gospel, he found joy in sharing music with others. A talented musician, he played the banjo, guitar, mandolin, bass, and fiddle. No matter where life took him, music was never far behind. While working as a truck driver, Carroll carried that love with him, making friends and memories through the songs he played and the fellowship he shared.

Carroll's greatest blessing was the life he built with his beloved wife, Betty. Together they shared 52 years of marriage, raising a family and creating a home filled with love. In the last six years, as Betty's health declined, Carroll cared for her with devotion and tenderness. His commitment never wavered. He faithfully stood by her side, offering comfort, strength, and support every day.

As Betty became unable to do many of the things she once had, Carroll quietly stepped in to carry those responsibilities himself. One of the ways he showed his love was by preparing the family's holiday meals, ensuring cherished traditions continued and that family could still gather together. It was a simple act, but one that reflected both his deep love for his family and his Christian servant's heart. Carroll was a faithful Christian man whose life was marked by kindness and a willingness to put others he loved before himself.

Those who knew Carroll will remember his love for music, his dedication to his family, his steadfast faith, and the warmth he brought to every gathering. His legacy lives on in the memories he created, the songs he shared, and the love he gave so freely.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo and Dora Moretz; his son, Claude Moretz; his grandson, Nathan Lee Nelson; his brother, Ted Moretz; and his grandparents, Hollie and Carl Moretz.

Carroll is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Betty Moretz; his daughters, Cynthia Nelson and Justina Moretz; his son, Jerry Moretz (friend Laurel); his grandsons, Kyle Moretz and Joshua Moretz; his “favorite” granddaughter, Julie Moretz; his sister, Violet Winebarger; and his brother, Harold Moretz.

Visitation will be held on June 24, 2026, at the Assembly of God Church in Meat Camp located at 3639 Meat Camp Rd., Boone, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., with graveside services following at Pleasant Valley Methodist Church Cemetery located at 4833 Rich mountain Rd., Boone, NC 28607.
