Brook Cecilia Cheuvront

Brook Cecilia Cheuvront, age 20, of Newland, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2024, while hiking in Cape Town, South Africa.

She was a native of Avery County and the daughter of April and Steve Cheuvront.

Brook was the Valedictorian of her 2022 class at Avery High School. She was a NCSSM online graduate in 2022, and was a UNC Chapel Hill posthumous graduate with a BA in English/Comparative Literature and a minor in Astronomy.

She was a UNC Morehead-Cain Scholar class of 2026, Morehead Planetarium Spokesperson, UNC Society of Physics Students and UNC Marathon Team member.

Brook enjoyed her work with Civic engagement in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Upper Seven Law Intern in Helena, Montana, Morehead Planetarium UNC Chapel Hill, and Justice desk in the Ntsika ye Themba, Cape Town South Africa.

Brook had a passion for the outdoors and adventures. She loved trail running, hiking, backpacking, high snowy peaks, mountaineering and wild flowers. She loved reading, creative writing and editing where she loved spending hours in the many UNC Libraries. She loved cheering the Tarheels on in football and basketball. Brook was lover of dogs especially her Golden, Nuka. Brook wanted to make this earth a better place by promoting equity of all people regardless of gender, sex, religion or color.

She will be remembered by her family and countless friends for her kindness, giving smiles, and truest hugs.

Brook was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Roger and Sharon Cheuvront of Lumberport, West Virginia.

In addition to her loving parents, she is survived by her siblings, Zane and Meadow Cheuvront; maternal grandparents Walt and Frances Strother of Seneca, SC; aunt Melissa Strother of Marion, NC along with cousins Mara and Talah Sout; uncle Eric and Apryl Strotherof Elkins, WV, with cousins Allyson and Sophia; uncle David and Mary Cheuvront and cousins Grant and Matt.

She is also survived by her partner Keegan Miller of Laramie, WY, and countless UNC friends, Morehead Scholars and Professors.

A funeral mass will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 12, 2024 in St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2085 NC-105, Linville, NC 28646.
