Billy Roger Blackburn, age 79, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, September 15, 2023. He was born on February 29, 1944 to Newt and Annie Lewis Blackburn.
In his younger years, he loved to farm raising tobacco, cabbage, and a garden. He also raised cattle and horses. He worked for 10 years at Harper Furniture in Lenoir.
A dedicated servant of the Lord, he was a proud member of Meat Camp Baptist Church.
Bill was a proud member of the Todd community and never met a stranger. Over many years, Bill enjoyed making new friends and socializing with them.
Bill was an avid listener of Bluegrass music. He would go to Blue Grass Festivals and listen to his good friend George Wilson and his band on Friday nights. He also enjoyed square dancing at the Todd Mercantile. Bill also loved genealogy. He enjoyed being with friends and all members of the Todd community. His easy and caring spirit will be missed.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Jean Wilson Blackburn of 56 years. Two children, Diane Currin of the home and Billy Blackburn Jr. (Sandra) of El Paso, Texas, grandson Bryan Blake Darden of Raleigh,NC, granddaughter Michelle Nicole Blackburn of El Paso, Texas, grandson Andrew James Blackburn of El Paso, Texas , nieces,nephews and cousins.
Bill is proceeded in death by his parents Newt and Annie Lewis Blackburn, 3 sisters Betty Ruth Ragen, Lorraine Miller and Chessie Greene.
Funeral services for Bill will be conducted Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Meat Camp Baptist Church. Pastor Mike Townsend and Revered Herbert McCoy will officiate the service.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM-2:00 PM prior to the service. A graveside service will follow at the Meat Camp Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the medical team at WMC and Amorem Hospice for the compassionate care shown to Bill during his illness.
