Mr. Donald Gordon "Don" Carson, age 73, of Farthing Hayes Road, Boone, died Saturday morning, May 7, 2011 at Watauga Medical Center. Born January 17, 1938 in Crumpler, West Virginia, he was a son of the late Walter and Beulah Osborne Carson. Don was a retired from Vermont American where he worked as a machinist.
He is survived by his wife; Ruby Hayes Carson, two sons; Michael Carson and Johnny Carson and wife Amy all of Boone, two grandchildren; Jacob and Darcy Carson of Boone; Richard Hester and family of Hickory and Anthony Hester and family of Deep Gap, two sisters; Betty Stanley and husband Dewey of Charlotte and Bobbie Jean Lusk of Bud, West Virginia, three brothers; Walter Carson of Concord, Bruce Carson and wife Wendy of Shatley Springs, and Doug Carson and wife Phyllis of Boone, one brother in law; Farthing Hayes and wife Mary of Boone, two sister in laws; Margaret Norris and Phyllis Hayes both of Boone, and a number of special nieces and nephews
Funeral services for Mr. Don Carson will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Boone United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Darrell Bare, Rev. Mike Townsend and Dr. George Naff. Burial will follow at Meat Camp Baptist Church Cemetery. The family respectfully requests no food. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Appalachian Regional Health Care System Home Health, PO Box 2600, Boone, NC 28607 or to High Country Health Care System, 400 Shadowline Drive, Suite 100-B, Boone, NC 28607 or to the Community Care Clinic, PO Box 1148, Boone, NC 28607.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 o'clock until 7:30 at Boone United Methodist Church.
